Where in Italy fits your kind of trip?

Choose the setting before the itinerary. A city rich in collections, a rural retreat and a lakeside town make different demands on your time. Begin with the experiences you most want, then choose the place that lets you enjoy them without constant transfers.

For a first city route

Compare Rome for ancient history and substantial cultural visits, Florence for an art-led stay, and Venice for neighbourhood walks and the water. You do not need all three on a short trip.

For a change of pace

Use Tuscany for a countryside chapter or Lake Como for a stay by the water. Naples deserves city time of its own, while Sicily works best when you first choose which part of the island to explore. Milan can be a cultural city break rather than only a transport stop.
